Fowl Mood Racing Continues to Roll With Top Five Finishes at Mohawk Nationals at Mohawk Raceway; Season Finale at Brighton up Next

Over the last few weeks, Phil Potts and the Fowl Mood Racing team have been on a roll. Their worst finish through the entire month of August was fourth, and in that same stretch they picked up their fifth win of the season with a great performance at Brighton Speedway. The team continued that success into September with a solid fourth place effort in the Great Crate Race at Brighton Speedway, and was looking to keep the momentum on their side as they headed to Mohawk International Raceway for a pair of events with the Go Nuclear Late Models this past weekend.

On Friday night at Mohawk Raceway, Potts was fast right off the trailer, scoring the win in his qualifier. Potts rolled off the starting grid from the sixth position and quickly gained positions at the drop of the green flag. By lap 10 he was up the second position and began to size up the race leader. Potts battled hard over the next few laps and just before the 30 lap race hit the half way point, Potts was in the lead and in control of the event. Potts continued to pace the field until a slight miscue opened the door, and Potts fell to second. He would finish the race in the runner-up spot.

Saturday was a long and challenging day for everyone at the track as they waited out Mother Nature. Is was well past 10pm when the racing finally began. A bad draw at the pit gate put Potts at the back of the field in his qualifier, and a sixth place finish in the heat race put him 19th on the starting grid for the 40 lap Richard Tenace Memorial main event. Much like the previous night, Potts had a fast car, and was able to work his way into the top ten before the race hit lap 10. He continued to move forward quickly as the race progressed and was in the fifth position as they hit the 22 lap mark. As the race went on, the Fowl Mood Late Model looked strong. He was in third place as the lap counter hit lap 30, and was trying to advance even farther in the closing laps. Potts fell to fourth late in the race and that is where he would finish.

“I really have to thank Stu and April (Archer) and everyone on the team for all they do each week”, said Potts after the event. “We had a couple real good nights here, it was a lot of fun”.

This coming weekend the Fowl Mood Racing team will return home to Brighton Speedway for one last event of the 2014 season. It will be championship night with double points on the line for the Late Models. Potts is currently third in track points, and under the right circumstances, could emerge as the 2014 Brighton Speedway Late Model Champion. The team will finish out the 2014 season with Go Nuclear Late Model Series events coming up at Fulton Speedway on Friday, October 3rd, Brockville Speedway on Friday, October 17th and Yates County Speedway on Sunday, October 26th.

Fowl Mood Racing would not be possible without the support of our sponsors. We would like to thank Hutchinson Fuels, Indewey Excavating, Vanderlaan Building Supplies, Bill’s Johns, Gord’s Water Service and Brighton Recycling Inc. for all their support throughout the 2014 racing season.

Fowl Mood Racing Looking for Strong Performance with Home Track Advantage at 4th Annual Great Crate Race at Brighton Speedway

With the 2014 regular season almost complete for Phil Potts and the Fowl Mood Racing team, their attention has shifted to some of the late season marquee events, with special emphasis on this weekend’s 4th annual Great Crate Race right at their home track, Brighton Speedway.

Coming off a third place finish last weekend, and a win during their previous start at Brighton, optimism is high going into the event, which will also be part of the Go Nuclear Late Model Series. Potts is currently 4th place in points in the series, and will be looking to make his mark on one of the richest paying Crate Late Model events in North America with $6000 on the line for winner plus lap money and other contingency awards.

“To win this race would be pretty special for our team”, says Potts. “It is the biggest event of our season, and its right here in our own backyard with all of our friends and family in the stands. “It will be a tough day, and the competition will be extremely tough as well, but hopefully we can be there at the end of night”.

After this weekend, Potts and the Fowl Mood Racing team will travel to Mohawk International Raceway in Hogansburg, New York for the annual Mohawk Nationals Weekend with Go Nuclear Late Model Series events on both Friday, September 12th and Saturday, September 13th. They will return to Brighton Speedway on Saturday, September 20th for their final race at their home track as they compete during the annual Applefest Weekend.

Fowl Mood Racing Returns to Victory Lane at Brighton Speedway; Battle for Can Am Championship Unfolds This Friday Night

After getting rained out last week at both Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park and Brighton Speedway, Phil Potts and the Fowl Mood Racing team were anxious to get back to the track this past weekend. Unfortunately, as the team battles for the track championship at Can Am events were once again rained out this past weekend, leaving Brighton Speedway as the team’s only destination for last week.

It was a tough start to the night at Brighton last Saturday, with some significant damage during a fourth place finish in the qualifying heat race. Potts and the Fowl Mood Racing team made the necessary repairs and were ready for battle in the 30 lap main event. Potts rolled off the starting grid from the 10th position and moved forward quietly in the early stages of the race. He was the first to jump up to the outside lane of the very fast and tacky surface and it paid dividends as he made his way to third place by lap 22. With five laps remaining, Potts continued on the high side to take the lead and checked out on the field to score his fifth overall win of the 2014 season (2nd win at Brighton).

“I really have to thank Stu and April (Archer) for the chance to drive these cars each week, and for the crew and their families for all the hard work that is put in and the time it takes to keep things running good”, says Potts. “I also want to thank the fans for coming out each week and supporting us and cheering us on”.

This coming weekend, Potts and the Fowl Mood Racing team will be seeking their first ever Can Am Motorsports Park track championship. They enter the night just four points behind, meaning a win could very seal the deal in their quest for a 2014 track title. They will also return to Brighton Speedway this coming Saturday night looking for a repeat performance.

Fowl Mood Racing Scores 3rd Place Finish at Brighton Speedway; Returns to Can Am This Weekend Looking to Break Tie in Battle for Championship

The 2014 season is quickly dwindling down for Phil Potts and the Fowl Mood Racing team. After a week off at Can Am, the team is looking forward to getting back to the Lafargeville, New York track as they look to break the tie in the battle for the coveted track title. The team will be in action at their hometown Brighton Speedway track on Saturday night.

After an uneventful fifth place finish in the qualifying heat race at Brighton Speedway on Saturday night, Phil Potts returned to the pit area for some final adjustments before hitting the track for the 30 lap main event. He started from the fifth position and by lap 12 he powered to the outside to grab the lead. For the next few laps, the lead was exchanged several times. A late race restart opened the door for one last opportunity for Potts, starting from second, but he was unable to make the pass, and finished the race in third place.

“I really have to thank the sponsors and all the crew”, says Potts. “The car was a blast to drive tonight. I made a little error at the end, trying to get the lead back, but that is racing”.

This coming weekend Potts will return to Can Am Motorsports Park on Friday after a week off last week and they will be back at Brighton Speedway on Saturday night. The next race on the Go Nuclear Late Model schedule comes on Saturday, September 6th at Brighton Speedway for the Great Crate Race.

Fowl Mood Racing Returns to Victory Lane at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park; Sixth Place Finish at Brighton Speedway

The past couple weeks have been tough in the Fowl Mood Racing camp, losing a couple of motors, and not getting the results that they were looking for. They returned to action this past week looking for much better results with events at Can Am Motorsports Park and Brighton Speedway on their schedule.

On Friday night at Can Am, Potts started the night with a fifth place finish in the qualifying heat race. After making some changes to the car, he headed back onto the track later in the night for their 20 lap main event, starting from the second row. Potts battled for second place for most of the race, but a lap 18 caution regrouped the field and put him on the rear bumper of the race leader. Potts ducked underneath the leader on the final lap to secure the win, and pulls back into a tie for the point lead in the battle for the Can Am Late Model championship.

“I really have to thank Stu and April (Archer) for providing me with this great car to drive each week”, says Potts. “I also want to thank our sponsors and all of our Fowl Mood Racing fans for sticking by us each week through the good times and bad”.

Potts and the Fowl Mood Racing team returned to their home track at Brighton Speedway on Saturday night. It was a rather uneventful night, finishing 5th in their qualifier and a sixth place finish in the main event.

This coming weekend Potts will have the night off at Can Am Motorsports Park on Friday but they will be back at Brighton Speedway on Saturday night. The next race on the Go Nuclear Late Model schedule comes on Saturday, September 6th at Brighton Speedway for the Great Crate Race.

Fowl Mood Racing Suffers Engine Problems at Can Am and Brighton

What started out to be a strong season for Phil Potts and the Fowl Mood Racing team quickly turned for the worse as engine failures on both Friday night at Can Am and Saturday night at Brighton has certainly hindered the spirits of the Fowl Mood team. They have been working hard a securing another engine and plan to be back this weekend at both tracks.

The weekend started at Can Am Motorsports Park in Lafargeville, New York. In the qualifying heat race, Phil Potts drove the Fowl Mood Racing Late Model to the front of the field after starting fourth on the grid and he went on to win. In the feature, Potts started on the outside of the front row and was chasing down the race leader at one point when the engine expired and they were done for the night.

The following day, the Fowl Mood team was back on the track at Brighton Speedway looking for better results. They finished fifth in the qualifying heat race, and managed a third place result in the main event, but a blown head gasket resulted in another blown motor. A new engine will go in the car to finish the year out at Brighton Speedway, and the team has already secured a motor for the second car and are hoping to be ready for Friday night.

The next Go Nuclear Late Model Series race is at Can Am this Friday night, and as mentioned, the team is hoping to be ready in time. On Saturday night, they will be back at Brighton Speedway.

“I really have to thank Stu & April (Archer) for allowing me to drive these cars and the crew that work so hard each week in the shop and at the track. I also would like to thank our sponsors and all the race fans that come out and watch us race”.

Fowl Mood Racing Battles to a Second Place Finish on Saturday Night at Brighton Speedway; Canada Day Championship Weekend Coming Up

This past weekend was a relatively quiet weekend for Phil Potts and the Fowl Mood Racing team, as their Friday night track at Can Am had a rare night off. The team was back in action on Saturday night at their home track in Brighton looking to get back to victory lane and continue their early season success.

Potts opened the night with a fifth place finish in the qualifying heat race, maintaining his starting position. In the 30 lap main event, Potts rolled off the starting grid from the ninth position and patiently moved forward from the drop of the green flag. With five laps on the board, the Fowl Mood Racing Late Model was already inside the top five, and just a few laps later they were in third place. Potts settled in third for much of the last half of the race before making his way to second with just a couple laps remaining. He crossed the finish line in second place.

“We got off to a bit of a slow start, with the wrong gear in the car for the heat race”, says Potts. “The guys did a great job getting the car ready for the feature and the car was real good. I have to thank the Stu (Archer) and the entire team for their hard work during the week and here at the track”.

This coming weekend, Potts and the Fowl Mood Racing team will have another week off at Can Am as the Late Models are not on the schedule. They are entrenched in a great battle for the championship, and are currently tied for the top spot. Action will resume at Can Am next Friday night. On Saturday night, the team will be back at Brighton Speedway for the annual Canada Day Championships.

Fowl Mood Racing Continues 2014 Success With a Pair of Top Five Finishes; Brighton Speedway Coming up on Saturday Night

Still basking in the glory of their biggest ever win by Fowl Mood Racing at Cornwall Speedway just a couple weeks back, Phil Potts and the team were back at the track this past weekend with event s at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park on Friday night, and home to Brighton Speedway on Saturday evening.

At Can Am, Potts battled to a fourth place finish in his qualifying heat race after starting in seventh place. Potts lined up on the inside of row three in the fifth position for the main event. After getting pushed up the track early and losing a couple positions, Potts regrouped and was able to battle back on the high side of the Speedway to score a third place finish.

“We had a lot of fun out there tonight. The 57 car is going to be tough to beat all year, but we will get our share”, says Potts after the race. “I have to thank Stu (Archer) and all the guys that work on the car, and all of our sponsors for their support”.

Brighton Speedway was up next on Saturday night. It was a tough night for the Fowl Mood team, battling from the back several times throughout the feature. Potts crossed the line with a solid fourth place result.

This coming weekend the Fowl Mood Racing team will return to Brighton Speedway. Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park has the night off on Friday night and will return to action on Friday, July 4th. The next race in the Go Nuclear Late Model Series will come on Friday, July 18th.

Fowl Mood Racing Has Unforgettable Weekend With Wins on Friday Night at Can Am and Go Nuclear Late Model Series Win at Cornwall on Sunday

Every once in a while, a team will hit it just right and they will have an unforgettable weekend. That is exactly what happened to Phil Potts and the Fowl Mood Racing team. Going into this past weekend, Potts had not won at a track outside of their home track in Brighton and they were looking to change that. Their schedule consisted of double features on Friday night at Can Am, followed by a regular show at Brighton Speedway before hitting the road for Cornwall Speedway early on Sunday morning.

Friday night at Can Am started out with the feature that was postponed from May 9th. Potts started from the fourth position and quickly made his way to second. While Potts pulled away from the third place car, he was unable to make ground on the race leader, and settled for a second place finish. In the second feature of the night, Potts started from the second row and was in the lead before they completed lap one. For much of the race, he raced side by side battling for the lead and would cross the finish line with his first ever Can Am victory. Potts is currently the points leader at Can Am by just eight points.

“That was a lot of fun”, says Potts after the race. “I really have to give props to Charlie (Sandercock) for the great battle. We ran 9 laps door to door in that second feature. It was a blast”.

Brighton Speedway was up next on the schedule. The team scored a third place finish in their qualifying heat race, and struggled to a fourth place result in the main event. Potts is currently third in points at Brighton Speedway, sitting 100 points behind the leader with plenty of racing to go in 2014.

Friday’s race at Can Am was exciting, but held nothing over what was about to happen on Sunday night at Cornwall with the Go Nuclear Late Model Series. Potts started the 35 lap main event from the 11th position and was up to sixth place when the race was slowed on lap eight for the first caution of the night. By the halfway point, Potts had worked his way into a top five position and was up to third when the race was slowed on lap 21. The Delaware-style restarts had Potts on the outside of row two for the restart and he continued in the third position. At lap 30, Potts advanced to second after one of the leaders had a mechanical issue. Over the next few laps, Potts did everything he could to run down the race leader, and made an impressive outside lane move with 2 laps to go, but had to back out of it to avoid contact with the wall. The final caution was displayed on the white flag lap setting up one more shot at victory. When the race resumed, Potts blasted to the outside line, and stormed to victory with a dramatic last lap, last corner pass by a slim margin of just 0.011 of a second.

“I really have to thank all of my sponsors, and crew for all their support”, says Potts. “Winning this Go Nuclear race is pretty special to us and we are all really excited right now”.

Fowl Mood Racing Has Busy Weekend with Three Nights of Racing; Can Am, Brighton and Go Nuclear Series at Cornwall Coming Up Next

The 2014 season has kicked into high gear, with three nights of racing on the schedule going into this past weekend and once again next weekend for the Fowl Mood Racing team. This weekend the team made the trip to Can Am Motorsports Park on Friday night, back home to Brighton Speedway on Saturday night before leaving for Humberstone Speedway in Port Colborne, Ontario on Sunday.

At Can Am, the Fowl Mood Racing team started the night off with a fourth place finish in their qualifying heat race. After making some adjustments to the car, they returned to the track, looking for a little better results in the feature. The car worked well, and Potts was able to maintain a third place result for the duration, crossing the finish line in 3rd.

“I would really like to thank my pit crew for the hard work this week on the Fowl Mood Racing cars”, says Potts after the race. “I also have to thank our wives for allowing us the time away from our families so we can race each week. Congratulations to Dave (McDonald) on his big win tonight”.

Saturday night started off well for the Fowl Mood Racing team as they picked up the win in their qualifying heat race at Brighton Speedway. In the 30 lap feature, the battled handling issues and struggled to an 11th place finish.

On Sunday, the team traveled to Humberstone Speedway for round 2 of the Go Nuclear Late Model Series. The qualified in through their heat race and started the feature from the 10th starting spot. It was a struggle, but they continued on the lead lap throughout the event and finished with a 14th place result.

“Overall it wasn’t a bad night”, says Potts. “We figured our problems from last night, and brought the car home in one piece. I have to thank Stu and April (Archer) for the opportunity to drive for them, and the crew again for all their hard work over this crazy weekend”.

The Fowl Mood Racing team will return to Can Am Motorsports Park on Friday night, then back home to Brighton Speedway on Saturday night before making the trip to Cornwall Speedway on Sunday with the Go Nuclear Late Model Series.

Fowl Mood Racing and Phil Potts Visit Victory Lane on Saturday Night at Brighton Speedway; Finish Eighth in Go Nuclear Opener at Utica Rome

The 2014 racing season has been slow starting for the Fowl Mood Racing team and driver Phil Potts. The weather has been absolutely horrendous, forcing rainouts almost every weekend. When they do get on the track though, Potts has been strong. He finished fourth last week on opening night at Brighton, and was looking for some good weather as they had a very busy Victoria Day Weekend planned with racing on Friday at Can Am, Saturday at Brighton and Sunday at Utica Rome Speedway for the 1st annual Gnome Cup.

Once again, rain was the story of the day on Friday and Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park made their decision early to cancel the night’s program. Rain lasted all day long, and there was just no chance of racing. Saturday was a much better day, as the Fowl Mood Racing team made the short trek across the town to Brighton Speedway. Potts started third in his qualifying heat race and moved up to second just a few laps into the race and maintained that position. In the 30 lap main event, the Fowl Mood Racing car started from seventh place and was inside the top five as the race hit lap number 4. Just a couple laps later, Potts wheeled the car to third place, and quickly began to challenge for the runner-up position. By lap eight, Potts had worked his way around the second place car and began to chase down the race leader. A lap nine-restart was just what Potts needed, and when they circled around to complete lap 10 he was in the lead and never looked back.

“The car was great tonight. Everyone on the team has worked hard during the off-season, and we have come back here with hopes of winning the championship”, says Potts. “We had a good run last week and backed that up with a win tonight and we are real happy with where we are at”.

On Sunday, the team headed to Vernon, New York for the 1st annual Gnome Cup event at Utica Rome Speedway. A second place finish in the qualifier locked Potts into the redraw for the main event. He ran a solid race, and came out with an eighth place finish.

“We are real happy with our results tonight”, says Potts. “I really have to thank the crew for all their hard work that they put into this car. I have to thank Stu and April (Archer) for providing me with the chance to drive these cars, and to my family for putting up with me being gone a lot”.

Potts will once again try to get back to Can Am Motorsports Park this coming Friday night, weather permitting. On Saturday night they will be looking to make it two wins in a row at Brighton Speedway. The next race on the Go Nuclear schedule is Sunday, June 1st at Humberstone Speedway in Port Colborne, Ontario.

Fowl Mood Racing Grabs Fourth Place Finish on Saturday Night at Brighton Speedway; Busy Weekend of Racing Coming Up

The Fowl Mood Racing team has been ready to get the 2014 season started for a while now, but Mother Nature had not been co-operative. The scheduled Atomic Spring Clash at Mohawk International Raceway was first postponed from its original date at the end of April, and was cancelled altogether when rain returned the following weekend. Both Can Am and Brighton Speedway also lost their first show of the season to rain. This past weekend the team was finally able to get to the track, but they still battled the weather.

On Friday night, Phil Potts and the Fowl Mood Racing team hit the road to Can Am Motorsports Park. They will compete at Can Am regularly in 2014, and were hoping to get the year started off on a good note. They started the qualifying heat race from sixth place, and were able to advance to fifth by the end of the race. The feature event was the first up for the night, and they had just made their way onto the track as it started to rain. A heavy downpour forced track officials to postpone the Late Model feature and it will now be made up on Friday, May 23rd.

Brighton Speedway was able to get their 2014 season started on Saturday night, and Potts started the night with a third place finish in their heat race. In the 30 lap main event, Potts started from sixth place, and battled within the top five all race long. He finished the race with a solid fourth place run.

“The car was pretty good tonight. It felt good to finally get back on the track and get the season started after all the rainouts”, says Potts. “We are happy with this finish, and look forward to a busy weekend coming up”.

Potts and the Fowl Mood Racing team will head back to Can Am Motorsports Park on Friday night, and return to Brighton Speedway on Saturday. On Sunday, they will make their debut at Utica Rome Speedway in Vernon, New York for the 1st annual Gnome Cup, which is the first race of the Go Nuclear Late Model Series schedule.
